Day 22: North to Alaska
July 3, 2008 - Salmon, Idaho to Vernal, Utah
Headed SSE from Salmon on 28. Long stretch of vast open spaces. Loved it, just bombing along with the light and space all around.
Wiggled around the north side of Idaho Falls, took US 28 into Wyoming, and then down the west edge of Wyoming to Kemmerer.
The plan was to eat a late lunch at the Busy Bee, a restaurant I'd eaten at on both the '98 and '99 trips. Got there to find the door open, but they were just cleaning, they'd closed 45 minutes earlier. I tried 'but I rode 9000 miles to eat here!!', to no avail. :)
So I go back out and hear, 'RICH!!'. What the hell....I turn around and across the street are Chuck and Teri, friends from Oklahoma. They're on a 2 week ride with Teri's brother and sister-in-law. What are the odds, running into them in a small town in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming?
They were headed south to Flaming Gorge too, so I tagged along with them until they split off to their hotel and I kept going down UT 44 and US 191 to Vernal. That's a good stretch too, nice road and good views coming over the pass.
